Join Conservatives Abroad and former Minister Sir John Hayes MP virtually.

Conservative Party Members and Patrons worldwide are invited to join a Microsoft Teams call arranged by Conservatives Abroad with Guest of Honour, the Rt Hon Sir John Hayes CBE MP for South Holland and the Deepings on Wednesday, 15 November at 1430 GMT.

This a unique opportunity for members to engage on all current political topics with a very senior Member of Parliament with first-hand experience at senior Ministerial level of numerous Government Departments who can speak with first-hand experience on domestic and international matters, pertinent to our members.

This event is only open to members and patrons of Conservatives Abroad, the Conservative Party, or its constituent Associations.

The Rt Hon Sir John Hayes CBE MP has been the Member of Parliament for the Lincolnshire seat of South Holland and the Deepings since the 1997 General Election. Before entering Parliament, he worked for an information technology company and spent 13 years as a Nottinghamshire County councilor.

On first entering Parliament, Sir John sat on both the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food and the Education and Employment Select Committees before being appointed a Vice Chairman of the Party. He then served as a shadow minister in various roles including Assistant Chief Opposition Whip.

After the 2010 Election victory, he was appointed Minister of State for Further Education and then Minister of State for Energy and after a brief stint at the Cabinet Office, Minister of State for Transport.

After the 2015 General Election, he was moved to the Home Office becoming Minister of State for Security before being reshuffled back to the Department of Transport.

One of his most noteworthy achievements since leaving the Government has been his founding of the Common Sense Group, an informal group of Conservative politicians and journalists who consider the future direction of the Party and policy.
