The UK Conservatives Abroad Society in Hong Kong was re-launched last night at a well-attended dinner at the territory’s prestigious China Club. Despite having existed for many decades, membership has fallen in recent years and so a new committee has been formed to take the society forward again.
“We have been taken back by the reaction to the re-launch” said Sam Olsen, the recently elected Chairman. “Despite minimal publicity all the tickets were snapped up in a matter of days and we have received a great many messages of support.”
“The main purpose of Conservatives Abroad Hong Kong is to raise votes for the Conservatives at elections” said Sam. “This means we need a large number of members, and the only way to achieve this is by creating a society that is both interesting and fun. The re-launch dinner was exactly as we mean to carry on.”
The Dinner Speaker was Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, the President of the Conservative Friends of the Chinese, who joined on the phone from London. Mr Clifton-Brown spoke about the current progress being made by the Coalition Government and the challenges that lie ahead, before taking a very well received Q&A that covered topics as diverse as Scottish independence and giving more Government help to British clothing companies expand in Asia.
NOTE: Conservatives Abroad Hong Kong is a registered society in Hong Kong. It is open to all residents of Hong Kong whether British or not.
