Conservatives Abroad warmly welcomes the Government's announcement that the register of general election voters will be used for the forthcoming referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.
This means that millions of Britons living abroad will have the right to vote on their county's future in Europe.
The general election register currently excludes Britons who have lived abroad for more than 15 years under a rule introduced by the last Labour government.
The 2015 Conservative Manifesto contains a commitment to allow British citizens votes for life by abolishing the 15 year rule. But Conservatives Abroad will strongly encourage the Government to deliver this change in time for the European referendum so that all British citizens have the right to vote on their country's future.
