Conservatives Abroad are celebrating the clear commitment to end the 15 year rule on overseas voters in the recently published Conservative Party Manifesto.
In the section “We will protect our electoral system, to safeguard our democracy” the Manifesto says -
"We will complete the electoral register, by working to include more of the five million Britons who live abroad. We will introduce votes for life, scrapping the rule that bars British citizens who have lived abroad for more than 15 years from voting"
The Conservatives are now the only party to promise to abolish the 15 year rule which prevents millions of British expats who have lived abroad for more than 15 years from voting.
Heather Harper, chairman of Conservatives Abroad, said “we are delighted that the party has listened to our case and made the decision to give all British expats their democratic right to vote. The only way now to secure this change is to elect a Conservative government”.
The Daily Telegraph has compared the commitments to expat voters of the three main parties in an article that shows how much more the Conservatives care about British expats. You can read the article here.
