Alistair Burt, Parliamentary Under Secretary for the FCO, was guest of honour at a dinner held by Gulf Tories in Dubai on Wednesday 29th May. He provided a thorough briefing on the state of affairs in British politics and provided an entertaining and very human description of the hectic life of an international minister. Alistair's talk, knowledge and above all energy were very much appreciated by the group. In his three years in post, Alistair has overseen a significant increase in trade between the Gulf and the UK and has won many new supporters and friends. Responding to Alistair's description of British politics, the Chairman of Gulf Tories, and the Chairmen of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar, stated that they very much hoped the Conservative Party held steady and remembers that the main objective of the Party is to save us from Liberals and Socialists. The Party should represent the best interests of Britain and maintain an international focus to boost trade, reduce armed conflict and promote the best of British values. Europe is important but growth lies elsewhere and we mustn't present a "Little Englander" face to the rest of the world.
